Enrollment Policy and Procedures

The mission of Aurora Charter School is to operate a center of learning that embraces academic excellence and celebrates the gift of Latino culture.

Currently Enrolled Students

Students who are currently enrolled at Aurora Charter School will indicate their intent to return during 3rd Quarter conferences. If parents indicate that their child(ren) will be returning to school in the autumn, those students will be automatically enrolled for the upcoming school year.

Pre-K Registration

Pre-K registration will begin at the beginning of 4th Quarter. To be considered for placement, Pre-K candidates must be 4 years old by September 1st of the upcoming school year. A completed application, birth certificate, and immunization form must be completed and turned in to the office by the end of 3rd Quarter. Siblings of current ACS students will be given priority for enrollment. A lottery will occur for placement for the remaining available placements until the class reaches its maximum of 20 students.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration will begin at the beginning of 4th Quarter. To be considered for placement, kindergarten candidates must be 5 years old by September 1st of the upcoming school year. Students who are siblings of currently enrolled students and the children of staff members will have priority. A lottery will occur to fill the remaining available placements until the grade level reaches its maximum of 40 students. For all new kindergarten candidates, a completed application, birth certificate, and immunization record must also be completed and turned in to the admissions office by the end of March. Parents/Guardians of all children enrolled in kindergarten at Aurora Charter School must submit to the school admissions office a record indicating the months and year the child received developmental screening and the results of the screening not later than 30 days after the first day of attendance. If a child is transferred from another kindergarten program to Aurora Charter School, the parent or guardian of the child will be allowed 30 days to submit the child's record, during which time the child may attend school. We occasionally consider allowing students early entrance to kindergarten. Procedures for this process can be found in ACS's Early Entrance to Kindergarten policy.

New Student Enrollment

New student enrollment will begin on April 1st. A completed application, birth certificate, and immunization record must be turned in to the office to be considered for placement. Siblings of currently enrolled students and the children of staff members will be given first priority. A lottery will occur to fill the remaining available placements until there are 40 students per grade level. Because Aurora Charter School is a dual-language school, all students complete a Home Language Questionnaire, which is included in the application and is used to determine ESL services.

Lottery Process

A general lottery will be conducted in April after the office determines how many students will be accepted for the upcoming school year. After the lottery, students who are not accepted in the grade level for which they have applied will be placed on a waiting list, and the order for the waiting list will be determined by lottery number. As openings become available, students will be contacted and placed. The waiting list will expire after the first half of the upcoming school year, so students who want to remain on the waiting list must re-apply every January.

Placement

No student will be considered for placement until all application materials are completed and turned in to the admissions office. Aurora Charter School staff will use completed registration information to determine the appropriate placement for the student.
